Archway volunteer Rachel Douglas tells us why she’s running for Archway:
As some of you know, I’ve recently started running regularly in order to boost my fitness and general well-being, and a couple of weeks ago I signed up to my first run!
I’m running 5k at the Heyford Air Base on Sunday 10th June, and I thought this would be an excellent opportunity to raise some money and awareness for a charity very close to my heart – The Archway Foundation.
All of us have felt lonely at some point in our lives. Loneliness can affect anyone, no matter your age, background, or even your support network.
The Archway Foundation was established in Oxford in 1982 to help relieve some of the real distress caused by loneliness. They connect those feeling alienated with a diverse group of volunteers, many of whom know for themselves how damaging loneliness can be.
Your donations will make a real difference to people experiencing loneliness in Oxfordshire.
£20 Provides transport for 2 months for someone who is unable to get out
£50 Provides a safe and supportive environment for our social evenings
£5 Enables weekly communication with 5 people
…. if you are local to Oxford and you’ve been thinking about volunteering, please consider Archway. An hour of your time once a fortnight can [also] make a real difference to someones life!
Thank you so much Rachel
